Let Love In
I was driving home today and I heard the song "Let Love In" by the Goo Goo Dolls. I immediately was brought back to how that simple phrase is a huge key to a successful Christian walk. How many times do you think that you have rejected the love of God? I am going to suggest the idea that you have done it every day.
The idea of letting love in isn’t new by any means. I would venture a guess that we reject the love of God because we don’t realize how much love He has for us. Our perception of how much He cares for us is lacking truth. I am amazed at how many times God has tried to smother me with His affection and I have shut that door.
One of my favorite verses is John 4:10. Jesus meets a Samaritan woman who is changed forever after their conversation. The most amazing thing is what He says to her. He says, "If you knew the gift of God…you would have asked of Him and He would have given you life giving water." The reason I find that so amazing is that he is basically saying, "Hey if you knew who I was, and how good I am, you would know that I want to give you life!" The life that He is talking about is full of love.
So, how do we let God’s love in? I am not claiming to have the only answer, but I believe that letting God’s love in involves us asking Him for things that will develop our intimacy with Him. I don’t know how to really explain this, so I will use an example.
How many of you parents like when your kids ask you for things? Now I’m not talking about when they nag you for candy or toys, but when they genuinely want something that you can give them. I can only imagine how great it would be, if I had a kid, to have him say, "Daddy, can you show me how to skateboard? or can you teach me about photography? etc. That would joy my heart beyond belief. I can only imagine that God feels that plus a million times more when we ask Him for things.
So I guess I will leave you with that phrase again…Let Love In! Allow God to answer your prayers or even just your simple requests. Share your life with God because He absolutely adores your attention!
