The Book Safe

Book Safe

I bought this Tom Clancy book a few weeks ago from our local thrift shop for about $3. I bought it for the purpose of making a secret Book Safe. Last night, I finally started it, but Whitney might took it over after I was about halfway through. She was not trying to do it for me, but simply offered to help. Either way, it was definitely a joint effort! We are both really pleased overall with the outcome.

This was a very easy project, just took a little muscle to get through the pages with my Xacto knife. We also went through a couple blades. The sharper the blades, the easier it was to get through the pages. The corners are a bit of a nuisance. Hard to get them really clean. However, the roughness just gives it that cool handmade quality. I am excited to put my cigars in them!

Book Safe.

Can you tell from the above photo that the watered down Mod Podge bled onto the top red page on the outer edges? I may go over that page with the Mod Podge to just finish it off. I think it would look nicer this way. The opening is pretty deep. Could it hold your secrets?

The Mess.

This project was a lot of fun, but it sure was messy! Nothing that wasn’t easily cleaned up.

If you’d like to try this project, Bre Pettis has a great video tutorial here.

I voted

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

Yes, I voted. This was the first time I have ever voted. I was nervous because I didn’t know what to expect. Was I going to be confused like the old Florida voters? Was I going to vote for Obama when I wanted McCain? Or would I vote a write in? I had no idea how any of this was going to work, but it was easy enough. I walked in with my headphones listening to chuck missler, turned it off, voted, and put it back on. It only took a few minutes, but for some reason felt like it was going to take a lifetime because that is how long this crappy political thing has been going on.

I really just wanted to vote to get a free taco at California Tortilla! haha

Head out on the highway!

This is Bonsai, my Jack Russell Terrier. I was starting my bike up today to let it run a bit since I can’t ride it right now. I had Bonsai with me and he started jumping and jumping to get up with me. Anyway, It was fun because I think he was imagining himself driving it…OK, I know he probably wasn’t, but I can pretend. Here are a couple shots from my cell phone.

Hey Everyone…
I just wanted to introduce you to Cracker, our gnome. We picked him up on our way across country. So far he has been to Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, North and South Carolina, and Virginia. Soon he will go with us to DC for his final stop. These are only a few pics of him. The rest can be found in the Photo section of this site. Click here to see more!

Lifehouse

Ok, I’m not NORMALLY a fan of christian videos, but every time I see this I fight back the tears. It is a constant reminder of how much Jesus fights for me. I often forget about the battle going on behind the scenes, so I am thankful for things like this that help me remember.

I hope you enjoy~!
